Hey I think I remember you and Justin running around the Heartbreak Hill area last year. Do you run other sections of Comm in your training? Do you think one direction or the other matters much (I am not sadly/thankfully training for Boston)? I think I might start using it for some long runs (along with 759872934 million other people apparently). Just curious, thanks!

Hello! Sorry for the delayed response.

Yes, Justin and I run around the Heartbreak area quite often, namely because it gives us a good dose of the hills that we will be cursing profusely on April 18, but also because the carriage road runs the whole length out to the intersection of Washington Street (and even farther, actually). The carriage road is awesome because:

a) it’s a one-way lane running outbound, and because the regular road is also two-ways, it’s usually pretty clear of cars

b) and snow

c) and the pavement is a little easier on the joints than concrete is

oh and d) you can weave about like a drunk person because it’s nice and wide!

We generally run out towards Newton/Wellesley and then turn around and run back, so we don’t really get much of a taste of Comm past the Cleveland Circle area.

As for which direction you run, it all depends on the course you’re training for. We run out and then back in because we like to hit the three Newton hills later in our longer runs.

Maybe we’ll see you out there? :)
